Lilija Baila began her career in fashion when she was first exposed to the industry by modeling hair for her aunt, a successful hairstylist, at age 15. From that point on, she began to book small projects every now and then, but began taking her role in the industry more seriously once she moved to New York City for school at age 17. Studying ethno botany, she is driven to understand the way that people interact with nature inside our societies.
Taken along, as a hair stylist’s assistant, to a Brooklyn runway show in Fall 2012, one of the designers was short a model for his show, so Lilija was selected to walk. From that point on, she walked in a number of shows for him, as well as other small designers throughout the city.
In the summer of 2015, she spent four weeks and 200 educational and practical hours in Costa Rica receiving her yoga instructor’s certification. This allowed her to deepen her understanding of the human body and mind, as well as gain working knowledge of the human form and movement, and fluidity, skills that have translated beautifully into modeling.
Presently, some of her hobbies when she is at home in her quiet shorefront New Jersey hometown include surfing, practicing and teaching yoga, meditating, and taking her dogs out for walks. Lately she has been into knitting and has recently taken up playing the banjo. Soon to be added to her repertoire of hobbies are sailing and fishing.
